Like many washing stations in Rwanda, Kilimbi in association with the Muraho Trading Company are meticulous with their sorting. A big problem with coffee from this origin is the potato defect. At the Kilimbi stations, (and many other stations from our excellent supplier Raw Material) underripes, quakers, and floaters are removed to reduce the risk of this prominent defect. Once the parchment begins to dry, the coffees colouration that makes this defect visible for hand sorters disappears, so they have to remove these defects very quickly!
The lot we picked has been recognised as a microlot and was specifically separated for exceptional quality from the station. We believe the coffee from Kilimbi is one of the best Rwandas we’ve tasted, offering bursts of sweetness and tropical fruit acidity.
